Sacred Body Art
As part of my ministry, I use henna tattoos to bless people with sacred body artwork. Utilizing the healing properties of henna, my cleansing energy and your intention, we can transform your body into sacred artwork. Use henna art to decorate/bless a scar, a pregnant belly, or to just have fun! I am available for individual session or group parties.
What is henna?
Henna is the main ingredient in sacred body art, and comes from the plant, Lawsonia Inermis.
History of henna:
Henna has been used over 5000 years as a ritualistic form of body art used in marriages, deaths, and births. It's use has had spiritual and religious implications in many cultures around the world. It's widely embraced by the ancient Egyptians for is aesthetic beauty on hair, hand, and nails. In Turkey, Iraq, and Saudi Arabia, henna is a symbol of good luck.
Process of henna tattoos:
To make henna paste, henna is mixed with eucalyptus, lemon, and sugar to create a natural dye that is applied on the skin or hair. When used as a temporary tattoo, the applied paste stains the upper layers of dead skin and takes 1-3 days to change from a light orange to a dark brown color. The longer you leave it on your skin, the darker it will be. It slowly comes off as you shed layers of skin. Usually a henna tattoo will last 1-3 weeks. It is different on each person and also depends on what part of the body the henna is applied. |
